My Spartan…we have a plan

Plan C is now a real plan.  Decisions are made, schedules are set and a peace has settled in.  We met with the orthopedic oncologist today and the news was as good as it gets in this situation.

Kelly will be having a forefoot (front 1/2) amputation on Wednesday morning.  The cancer has minimally invaded the bone which is very good news.  One of the concerns all along has been getting clean and clear margins without damaging the foot beyond usefulness.  It is just not possible to get these margins without the amputation.  As the Dr. told us today, “We could try and get cutesy and play some games to save it, but the risk is just not worth it”.  The possibility of recurrence would be in the 40-50% range…He is right…not worth it.

So..here is the plan.  Wednesday morning at 10:15 Kelly will go into surgery.  He’ll be in the hospital 2-3 days, crutches 4-5 weeks, radiation and physical therapy to follow.  Life will go on…just a bit slower.

Slower is not always bad.  Slower means you see things a little clearer, enjoy things a little more, and appreciate the little things a little bit more.  Doesn’t sound too bad…especially since we’ll be doing it together.

Listen to His voice,

Lee Ann

just a short note:  Sunday afternoon we received several texts saying something to the effect of “I was visiting such and such church and they were praying for Kelly by name, who do ya’ll know in ____?”  What a gift to know he was being lifted up to our Heavenly Father all over the country.  Blessings upon blessings.  Love to you all

  1. Thankful for a plan. Wish there was an easier way to manage this. I know that God will walk with both of you through every day of this journey. You are loved and you are in our prayers.

  2. Knowing you know the Fsrher and His Son leaves me with less awe at your bravery and positive attitude. Continuing in prayer for the best results possible in the surgery and recovery and loving you both through the whole ordeal.

  3. Love you guys! I know God will carry you through this and along the way you will find colors are brighter, air is fresher and little things are more meaningful. Hang onto His promises! Love you!💞

  4. You are both in my prayer. I pray Kelly will recover quickly and Lee Ann will be the caregiver/coach/companion/friend that god has planned for her to be.

    Amen

  5. Kelly is being prayed for at several churches in South Africa. We will continue to keep him in prayer.
